THE FASCINATION OF HISTORY
The legend of Ferrari Trento began in 1902 with a man, Giulio Ferrari, and his dream of creating a wine in Trentino capable of competing with the best French Champagnes. He was a pioneer; the first to realize the extraordinary vocation of his territory, and the first to make substantial plantings of Chardonnay in Italy.
1902
The legend of Ferrari Trento began in 1902 with a visionary man, Giulio Ferrari, and his dream of crafting a wine in Trentino that could rival the finest French Champagnes. A true pioneer, he was the first to recognize the extraordinary potential of his land and the first to plant Chardonnay extensively in Italy.
1906
In 1906, Giulio Ferrari was awarded the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Milan, marking the first official recognition of the outstanding quality of Ferrari Trento’s sparkling wines.
1945
From the devastation of the Second World War came a remarkable rebirth, which gave rise to the first Riserva wines. In 1943, Trento was bombed, Giulio Ferrari sought refuge in his native village—but not before having the winery in the city centre sealed behind brick walls. When he returned, he discovered an invaluable treasure left untouched: time had gifted his sparkling wines with extraordinary complexity and elegance. The first Ferrari Reserves were born.
1952
Giulio Ferrari passed on his unwavering devotion to quality to Bruno Lunelli. The patriarch of the family destined to transform Ferrari Trento into a global ambassador of the Italian Art of Living worldwide did not hesitate: he went deeply into debt to acquire the company, which at the time produced just 9,000 bottles.
1969
First year of production of Ferrari Rosé.
1971
The winery moves from the historical center of Trento to Ravina, in the suburban area where it currently is.
First year of production of Ferrari Perlé.
1972
A closely guarded secret gave rise to what would become the most awarded Italian sparkling wine of all time. Mauro Lunelli hid 5,000 exceptional bottles crafted from grapes grown in the Maso Pianizza vineyard – bottles that would emerge in 1980 as the first Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore.
1981
Growing in scale without ever compromising on quality: Ferrari Trento reached the milestone of one million bottles.
1982
The Italian national football team, crowned World Champions in Spain, celebrated their victory before a global audience with a toast of Ferrari Trento.
1990
Villa Margon become the Gruppo Lunelli s representative headquarters, as the Lunelli family restored the 16th century villa to its former splendor.
1992
A new headquarters was built in Ravina, adjacent to the historic winery, accompanied by a significant expansion of production capacity.
2011
It was time for another passing of the torch: Gino Lunelli appointed his nephew Matteo as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ferrari Trento.
The new generation soon took centre stage in a historic celebration— the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy – marked with a prestigious toast.
2015
Ferrari Trento reached the highest step of the podium at the World Championships of sparkling wines, earning for the first time the title of “Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year” at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. The company also inaugurated Expo Milano 2015 as the official toast of the Italy Pavilion, while the estate-owned vineyards achieved Biodiversity Friend certification.
Ferrari Trento named European Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.
2016
Ferrari Trento became the official toast of the Emmy Awards, launching a five – year partnership.
2019
Ferrari Trento named Winery of the Year by Gambero Rosso
2020
Ferrari Trento published its first Sustainability Report, while its Trentodoc sparkling wines stood alongside Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli at the America’s Cup.
2021
From 2021 to 2024, Ferrari Trento served as the Official Toast of Formula 1®: for the first time, an Italian sparkling wine claimed its place on the podium, crowning one of the most iconic celebrations in the world of sport.
2022
Ferrari Trento celebrated its 120th anniversary and achieved the milestone of Carbon Neutrality certification.
2024
Ferrari Trento renewed its commitment to celebrating the Art of Hospitality as the Official Toast of The World’s 50 Best Hotels.
Ferrari Riserva Lunelli 2009 recognized with 100/100 by Decanter.
2025
Ferrari Trento for the eight time named “Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year” at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships.
At the same Championship Ferrari Brut is World Champion Blanc de Blancs.
